National award for equestrian crossing
| National award for equestrian crossing A Pegasus crossing in Moses Gate Country Park which caters for mounted horse riders as well as pedestrians has received a national award.
The Pegasus crossing point on Hall Lane in Moses Gate Country Park was nominated for the British Horse Society Achievement Award by the Chair of the Darwen and North Bolton Bridleways Association Kay Bruce.
The crossing is a pelican type but has two control buttons one at pedestrian height and one at the correct height for mounted horse riders. It was installed in April this year as a response to requests from riders who often cross the busy road Hall Lane on horse back. The road cuts through the middle of the park which is a popular place for horse riding with dedicated routes for riders and a horse exercising area. The crossing was funded through the council's Cleaner Greener funding programme and the installation co-ordinated by the council's engineers.
Mrs Bruce said: "Hall Lane is a busy road which intersects two parts of a bridle path so when Bolton Council responded by addressing the concerns of horse riders I felt that its efforts should be recognised. | |
It's made a tremendous difference just knowing that there is somewhere for pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders to cross safely."
Bolton's Executive Member for Cleaner, Greener, Safer Councillor Elaine Sherrington and Executive Member for Environmental Services Councillor Nick Peel were presented with the award certificate on Tuesday July 15 by Chris Peat, British Horse Society Regional Bridleway Officer for the North West.
In a joint quote they said: "We're delighted that this crossing has received such an accolade from those park users it was designed to assist.
"We hope this crossing will be used by horse riders and pedestrians alike so they can safely access all the attractions within Moses Gate Country Park."
