Amersham rescue pony to join charity team at Pony Club Champs
In a dramatic change of fortune, a severely neglected pony rescued from the tragic Amersham cruelty case in 2008 will take centre stage at The Pony Club Championships next week. Tabitha, who is now being cared for by The Blue Cross, will join a team of ponies representing the charity in an exciting mounted games competition against the Pony Club.
12.2hh Tabitha was one of 97 horses and ponies rescued by the RSPCA from Spindles Farm in an operation deemed the largest ever horse rescue in the UK. She was thin, wormy, dehydrated and hungry and was standing up to her fetlocks in faeces. She was tragically surrounded by many recently deceased companions and was lucky to survive herself. | |
Little Tabitha and fellow Amersham rescue pony Fudge have recently been transferred from the RSPCA to The Blue Cross equine welfare centre at Burford, Oxfordshire, where they are undergoing training in preparation for being rehomed on the charity's long-term loan scheme. Tabitha has blossomed into a beautiful riding pony and is a firm favourite with centre staff, especially those who are small enough to ride her!
Tabitha when she was found - photograph by RSPCA | Vicki Alford, Blue Cross equine manager at Burford said: "It's amazing to think how far Tabitha's come since that awful day when she was rescued from Spindles Farm; thankfully she's now happy and healthy with perfect manners and an endearing cheeky streak. Going to The Pony Club Championships will be a great experience for her and we hope that soon after she'll be ready to find a loving new home."
Tabitha will join three other rescue ponies from The Blue Cross in a brand new charity challenge at The Pony Club Championships on Tuesday 17 August, competing against the crème de la crème of mounted games talent in an exciting series of fun, fast Pony Club games - not to be missed! |
