East Riding of Yorkshire Council gives backing to FEI European Pony Championships
Conference and events manager Paul Roggeman explains why the organisation was keen to get involved with the Championships.
He said: "EY Events facilitates a host of major sporting events in the East Riding
of Yorkshire so it was only natural that we gave the FEI European Pony Championship our full backing and support.
"Any large scale event that brings visitors into the East Riding of Yorkshire and showcases our fabulous county would receive our backing and junior equestrian events do not come any bigger than this.
"As well as showcasing the region to a number of new visitors it will also really establish Bishop Burton College at the forefront of equestrian events.
"The sheer size of the competition along with the various number of countries involved means the college and the region in general will be firmly in the spotlight."
EY Events have entered into a sponsorship deal with the Championships organisers which will see their branding emblazoned across the competition site, trade stand space, official website and official programme which will in turn raise the profile of the East Riding to visitors from across Europe.
EY Events have helped to bring 35 events to the area in 2010, bringing in 70,000 people into the region and generating over £7M for the local East Riding economy.
Some of the major events the organisation run include the Winmau World Masters Darts Championships; the European Open Beach Championship; EBA European Masters Blackball Pool Championships and the hugely popular Northern Soul Weekender; all of which were held at venues across East Yorkshire.
Clare Garrick, Head of Marketing at Bishop Burton College is delighted that EY Events agreed to sponsor the European Pony Championships.
She said: "This competition will bring thousands of visitors from across Britain and Europe, which means the College and the region will be firmly in the spotlight.
"Having the support of EY Events means that this great opportunity to promote the region can be properly exploited and we can show our visitors what a marvellous area the East Riding is."
So why does Mr Roggeman think that the East Riding continues to attract such high-profile events?
"East Yorkshire remains an attractive proposition for event organisers because of the beautiful location that we can offer," he said.
"Whether it is the rolling countryside of the Wolds, the fabulous seaside towns along the coast or our wonderful market towns like Beverley and Driffield; the East Riding of Yorkshire has it all.
"The area is also becoming increasingly more accessible, with ferry and airport terminals linking us to the rest of the UK and Europe.
"Coupled with all this is the forward thinking and teamwork shown by organisations such as Bishop Burton College, EY Events and East Riding of Yorkshire Council to guarantee East Yorkshire remains an attractive proposition."
