Landowner convicted of horse welfare abuse
Ted found an emaciated grey gelding, suffering from a range of conditions including a severe louse infestation, hair loss and a number of open wounds including those consistent with a rug injury. The horse's front feet were also overgrown and in urgent need of attention.
The condition of the animal was such that it was estimated that the horse had been suffering for 5 months.
Mr Whenday, a lifting gear inspector and owner of the land, pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him at Hastings Magistrates Court.
The horse's condition was so poor that it was euthanased on the recommendation of a vet shortly after being removed from the premises.
