BHS Access Fighting Fund hits £20,000
The BHS renews its call for equestrians everywhere to support the Fighting Fund and so help defend their right to ride. Horse riders have access to just 22 percent of public rights of way, while carriage drivers have access to only five percent.
Director of Access, Safety and Welfare, Mark Weston, said: "It is heartening that, even in the current economic climate, people still recognise that helping to safeguard equestrian rights of way is important. Without their help, our ability to defend the rights of equestrians against those who wish to remove them would be severely impaired.
"I would like to thank everyone who has donated money, and would urge all equestrians to do what they can to raise money for the fighting fund."
BHS Senior Executive Access, Heather Holmes, went on: "This impressive sum has been raised by enthusiastic equestrians of all backgrounds; from individual donations to cake sales and 100-mile sponsored rides.
"There are many fun and interesting ways to help us raise more money, so please help us today by spreading the word and contact us on 01926 707813 to see how you can help."
It is hoped that The British Horse Society's Access week (15-25 May) will provide a focal point for raising both awareness of its equestrian access work, and funds to continue to fight for the preservation and development of equestrian access rights.
