Everything you wanted to know about installing an Arena but were afraid to ask....
The locomotion of the horse, and how it may adapt on certain different surfaces, is a key strand of the program.
The seminar runs from 10.30am to 3.30pm to fit in with those who need to attend to their horses.
In the morning, the mechanics of the hoof-ground interaction is presented by Dr J Burn, B. Eng.Ph.D. (leading biomechanics expert, Bristol University), while Nicole Rossa, an authority on McTimoney Animal Manipulation, will paint up a horse with its musclo-skeletal system so that the audience can see equine movement in an entirely new light.
To conclude that session, experts from Martin Collins Enterprises, manufacturers and installers of well known surfaces such as Polytrack and Ecotrack, will talk on arena construction and how to sift your way through the variety of products in the marketplace, with a practical maintenance demonstration to follow.
After lunch, riders Emile Faurie and 2008 Olympian Ben Maher will demonstrate the interaction of the synthetic surface with their horses.
Dr. Rachel Murray, MA VetMB, MS Ph.D. MRCVS, (Animal Health Trust) will then talk on injuries with the day concluding with questions to an expert panel including Capt Mark Phillips, Tim Price, proprietor of Addington Equestrian Centre, Dr Rachel Murray, Ben Maher, equianalyst Haydn Price and Kirsty Davis ITECDip. (Chairman of Equine Massage Association [ESMA]).
Emile Faurie commented: "You hear of many disasters from people who spend their hard-earned cash on building an arena only to see it fail within a short period. Sometimes they cannot get the constructor to return to put it right, or lose out completely when they cannot afford to start again from scratch.
The seminar is jointly organised by Addington Equestrian Centre and Martin Collins Enterprises and proceeds go to the Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance Trust and the Emile Faurie Foundation, which helps inner city children learn to ride. Tickets costs £5, available through www.mceltd.com or phoning 01488 71100.
