Frere the stallion

Frere the stallion

David and Sarah from Newtonmore Riding School contacted me last year about their sponsored diet to raise money for Grass sickness. So far between them they have lost around 5 stone and raised just over £400.00!. To read  the article that ignited their motivation please see the link at the bottom of this page.

In the mean time David and Sarah would like to introduce you to Frere, their much loved stallion.

Frere,  affectionately known as "Frere Bear" or "Frezzle", the James Bond of the horsey world and the leader of the pack and most definitely top horse at Newtonmore Riding Centre in Inverness-Shire, (well he would like to think so and judging by the way he is spoilt he probably is!)

At 16.2HH Frere is a stunning dark bay Dutch Warm Blood stallion who during his "working" career has competed on the dressage circuit internationally at Prix St.George level.

Now retired, Frere spends his days living in the lap of luxury at Newtonmore Riding Centre, where he moved to from his previous home in Haywards Heath, West Sussex.

Since his arrival Frere has had a major impact on everyone who visits the centre, it seems his fan club grows weekly and EVERYONE who visits just can't wait to meet him, and Frere being Frere greets one and all with his usual charm, charisma, cheekiness and distinguished nod of approval.

To call him a snob would be an understatement, his stable is fast becoming a 5 star area of luxury, with a comfy bed, constant food supply, treats galore, aqua minerale on tap, it is just a matter of time before the engineers call to install the 60" plasma TV (complete with DVD AND surround sound) - along with a state of the art CD player (Frere is an opera lover) and last but not least a Jacuzzi pool for that odd bit of exercise.

During his competition life Frere never indulged in the "stallion lifestyle" however now he is retired from work his "lady fan club" has grown. During his first covering season this year several mares have paid a  visit to Frere who, being the gentleman he is, welcomes them with his sophisticated charm, ice cool temperament and goes about his duties with professionalism, a very high standard of etiquette and courtesy that one would expect.

2008 will be a good year for "baby Frere Bears"!

In all seriousness, Frere is loved by all (except the other stallions), he really is an amazing character, his mannerisms make him almost human, always alert, always friendly, gentle, forever willing, it seems he knows all what is happening around him and takes life in his stride.

One of his funniest characteristics is the fact that he likes to have morning and afternoon naps, he settles himself down in his stable, lies flat out and the snoring can be heard all over the yard. When our farrier visits Frere will not oblige in standing, instead the farrier complies with Frere's wishes and attends to his feet why Frere stays on his side in his bed, it is a really funny sight to see, but Frere takes it all in his stride.

Yes he can be a full on stallion at times and, like all stallions, he can push the boundaries a little, but really he is a softy at heart, he knows when to behave and how to behave, which really makes him stand out from the crowd.

Frere is cared for by Sarah, who loves him and indeed all the horses (31 in total) to bits. Frere now considers Sarah to be his "new mummy" and it is quite obvious he loves Sarah to bits, you can sense the smile when he sees Sarah every morning and the bond between them is fantastic, they share some amazing times together, and even when he is feeling a little grumpy he still gets on with it and does what is asked of him, in summary Frere, with his outstanding ability and fantastic temperament is truly one in a million!
