British Eventing Appoints New Safety Chairman
BE Chief Executive, Mike Etherington-Smith says: "Our Safety Committee has a significant responsibility in looking at all aspects of safety in the sport, especially with regard to the design and construction of cross country courses. Safety is, and will always remain, our number one priority and the committee is always looking at ways to improve safety in the sport. This is an exciting time for Eventing with several new ideas being considered.
"Thanks go to Iain for all his hard work and dedication to improve safety standards for both riders and horses over the years. I am pleased to say that although Iain has moved to another role within British Showjumping, he has agreed to remain on the Committee, so the sport will not lose his wealth and depth of experience.
"We are delighted that Alec is taking on this role. His experience across the sport as a rider, Course Designer and Official, combined with his knowledge of organising Horse Trials including international events Blair Castle, Burnham Market and Houghton Hall, will stand him in very good stead as chairman of this important Committee."
Alec, who takes over his new role with immediate effect, says: "I look forward to continuing the good work that Iain Graham and the Committee have done before.
"Safety is obviously a significant issue in our sport both nationally and internationally and whilst I believe we lead the way in this area through our extensive and comprehensive data collection, analysis and research we must also continue to strive for a safer sport through continued development, without compromising the integrity of the aspects that we all enjoy."
